Hampi heaven

We took the 7.5 hour journey by train thru the state of Karnataka in search of the UNESCO world heritage site of Hampi, a once wealthy city occupied by 1.5 million people until its siege in 1565. This stunning city was abandoned, left as ruins, as it remains today. We planned to stay just a few days but found it was not enough time to explored all the temples and architecture of this once powerful city. We stayed in Hampi Bazaar, which was fun, living more amongst the villagers than we normally can. The scenery was also beautiful , especially at sunset, sitting amongst the ruins with the monkeys chattering and sun slowly going down, coming to see you all (hopefully) to start your day. Our train leaving Hampi was booked for 0630, so we departed from the station at 1030. The train as usual offered snacks, lunch (veg biryani) and chai (milky sweet tea) served by vendors jumping on and off the the train in between stations (or not!) which was very much required as we didn't reach out destination until 830pm. We HAD to go back to the beach, it was a tough decision, but we are now at Agonda. A quiet beach, with great waves and after meeting a Chilean Swiss couple on their one year honeymoon on the bus, have now occupied a lovely hut close to the beach side. We plan to go on soon to......
